Alfonso Paulson for EUHSD Area 1

Alfonso Paulson immigrated to the U.S. at age 4 from South America, becoming a U.S. citizen while in high school. He has lived in Escondido and attended Escondido public schools his entire life. As a second language learner, Alfonso understands the struggles that many of our students face. "I understand how important a good education is," he says. "My family came with nearly nothing and have become extremely successful through education. I want that opportunity for everyone." 

Alfonso cares deeply for our community, our families, and our students. He will be a strong advocate for career training programs, increased accountability, and support for our most vulnerable students.

We must improve our schools so that our students in EUHSD Area 1 can reach their maximum potential. This means building programs that meet the needs of today's students—such as career-technical classes, trades, high-quality college prep, and research and student-focused offerings. It is essential that the high school and elementary districts work together to provide the best education possible.

We must focus on the needs of today's students, and Alfonso Paulson will get it done. Everyone needs to have strong communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and solid math skills. Students must also have an achievable life plan and the skills to execute that plan. This requires many experiences in career-technical areas. Our schools are in a unique position to build students up so they are truly prepared for their futures. But we must focus on student learning, not culture wars.

Ultimately, it all means prioritizing student needs.
